🎪 Kids Word Hangman!
Guess the word letter by letter — how many can you get right? 🌟
📚 About Kids Word Hangman
Hangman is one of the oldest word games around, and it turns out to be a brilliant way for children to practise spelling, letter sounds and vocabulary without it feeling like schoolwork. Our version keeps the fun of the classic game but drops the gallows — instead, a friendly face reacts to each guess, so nothing here is scary for younger children.
How to play
- Pick a category — Animals, Colours, Fruits, Food, Numbers or Shapes — or play All Words for a mix
- Read the hint and picture emoji, then guess the word one letter at a time using the on-screen keyboard (or your own keyboard)
- You have 6 lives — each wrong letter uses one up
- Guess the whole word before you run out of lives to win, unlock a fun fact, and keep your streak going
What children learn
Every round quietly practises several early literacy skills at once: letter recognition, phonics and sound-to-letter matching, spelling patterns, and vocabulary across everyday topics like animals and food. The category system lets you focus practice where it's needed — for example, a child working on colour words in Reception can stick to the Colours category, while an older child can challenge themselves with longer words like "elephant" or "pineapple" in All Words mode.

Tips for parents and teachers
Sit with younger children the first few times and sound out each letter together — this turns the game into gentle phonics practice. The built-in hints and fun facts are worth reading aloud, as they often spark extra conversation and general knowledge alongside the spelling practice. Because there's no chat function, no sign-up and no personal data collected, it's safe to use unsupervised on a school Chromebook or tablet too.
