The Multiplication Tables Check is a national statutory assessment introduced by the UK government for all Year 4 pupils (aged 8โ9) in England. It was made compulsory in the 2021-22 academic year.
This practice tool replicates the real MTC format as closely as possible: 25 questions, 6 seconds per question, questions drawn from the 2โ12 times tables with harder tables (6, 7, 8, 9, 12) weighted to appear more frequently โ exactly as in the statutory test.
Encourage children to practise little and often โ 10 minutes daily is more effective than one long session per week. Focus extra practice on the 6, 7, 8, 9 and 12 times tables as these appear most in the real check.
This is a free practice tool and is not affiliated with the DfE or the Standards and Testing Agency. It is designed to help children become familiar and confident with the MTC format before their official assessment.
